Why your LinkedIn isn't bringing in clients
You’re posting consistently. Your audience is reacting to your posts and maybe even engaging in the comment section. Yet, your inquiries are drier than a three-day-old croissant. On the outside, your strategy seems to be working, but it’s not leading to conversions.
You blame the algorithm, your follower count, or the economy itself. The conclusion is “People simply aren’t buying”. This then makes you go down the rabbit hole, questioning all business and marketing decisions.
What if I told you that people ARE in fact buying, you just haven’t made it obvious enough that you're the one to call.
Let me show you exactly what's getting in the way.
Problem 1: Your content is too polished
You've been told to make your content look professional. So you polish every word, perfect every post, and make it look flawless. And your audience scrolls straight past it. The harder you work on making it perfect, the less human it feels. And human is what stops the scroll.
Problem 2: You're sitting back and waiting
This one's going to sting a little. You're waiting for LinkedIn to do the selling for you. You post, you engage, and then you sit back and hope someone reaches out. That's not a strategy. That's hope. And hope, unfortunately, doesn't fill a pipeline.
Problem 3: Your offer sounds like a “nice to have”
If someone reads your content and thinks, 'that's helpful,' and moves on, you have a positioning problem. Your offer needs to feel like the obvious next step, not an optional upgrade. Right now, you're convincing people you're good. You need to be convincing them that they can't afford not to work with you.
Problem 4: You're not building trust
We're living in a world where people are genuinely questioning whether there's a real human behind the screen. AI has made everyone suspicious. And the only antidote to that suspicion is YOU. Your stories, your quirks, your personality, the stuff that can't be replicated. When people trust the person, they buy the offer. Not the other way around.
Okay, you now know what the problems are. Now, let’s talk about what you can do about them step by step.
Problem 1 fix: Trade polish for personality
The first step is to create a content idea bank for yourself. You can use WhatsApp, Notion, the notes app, whatever works for you, just make sure you can access it flawlessly in seconds when you need it. Create a habit of always noting down content ideas as and when they pop in your mind.
Then, when you sit down to write your content, don’t spend an hour on it. Give yourself a 20-30 minute limit to write the post. This will stop you from overthinking.
The posts that make people stop scrolling aren’t perfectly formatted. They are often the ones that you wrote on a whim because they truly feel like a real person with a real thought wrote it. Share the behind-the-scenes moment. Tell the story that made you cringe a little. Say the thing you've been slightly afraid to say.
Perfection isn’t the goal here. Being REAL is.
Problem 2 fix: Make the ask
Go and look at your last ten posts. How many of them explicitly invited someone to take the next step, like book a call, send you a message, or reply with a question? If the answer is fewer than 3, that’s your problem right there.
Now, look at your inbox. How many times have you invited someone who fits your target market perfectly for a call in the past week? One? Two? Zero?
You don’t need to be pushy and use all the icky pitch-slap strategies out there. But if you don’t make invitations, if you don’t tell your target audience about your availability, how are they supposed to know? Share what working with you looks like through stories and client results, and invite your dream clients to work with you - that’s your job as a founder.
Share the invitations to work with you in your content, and when speaking to people in messages, to open the door to opportunities.
Problem 3 fix: Make the cost of inaction clear
Your ideal clients need to understand the value of working with you clearly. They need to know about how your offer changes their lives and/or their business. On top of that, they need to know about what it costs them not to have it.
Instead of: "I help founders build LinkedIn personal brands."
Try: "Every week you're posting without a clear strategy is a week you’re leaving thousands on the table."
Get specific and paint the picture with your words. Engage their imagination - the missed leads, the wasted hours, the pipeline that never quite fills up. When the problem feels real and urgent, your solution stops being optional.
Problem 4 fix: Let them see you
This doesn't mean oversharing. It means being specific in a way that only you can be. Instead of writing "here are 3 tips for LinkedIn," write about the moment you realised tip number two was true: what happened, where you were, what it cost you before you figured it out.
Instead of a polished headshot as your only visual, share the photo from the event where something funny happened. Tell the story behind it.
Your personality, your specific experiences, your way of seeing things. These should be your default when writing a story. Nobody can copy them. Nobody can AI-generate them. They're the reason people choose you over someone who does exactly what you do.
One of my clients got an inbound lead after just two posts once we fixed her positioning. Another signed a £70k contract within three months. This works when the foundations are right.
